Εβδομάδα 7: The sisters are a package deal!
I’m loving the new missionaries we keep getting! I taught Sister DeMille and Sister Owens how to say hello/ goodbye and now they are constantly saying “γεια σάς” (ēah sahs) everywhere and it’s hilarious and I love it!
We taught so many lessons again this week and the improvement with our language is awesome! We even Skyped another Greek member!
My district decided to make a list of funny things we’ve said in class, Greek or English stuff. So far it’s basically “funny quotes from Αδελφή Gale” as Elder Hawkins says, or Elder Pascuzzo’s English slip ups with his accent haha. But yeah, basically feelin right at home and we’re trying really hard to make the most of our last 2 weeks here! Elder Jensen caught a wasp in his cup to release outside since it was in our class and Elder Hawkins and Elder Pascuzzo were freaking out about it haha.
We played fútbol almost everyday this week too! A few missionaries have been asking Sister DeMille, Owens, and I if we knew each other before the mish and played soccer for BYU since we’re always talking haha, I’m glad I’ve gotten to be such good friends with them! The weather has been gorgeous for the most part, so bonus there!
Here’s a few recaps of some cool experiences!
SUNDAY 3.31.19
We got to hear Elder Rasband relay his experiences about the Rome, Italy temple dedication. It was so cool to hear him share his own personal experiences and testimony with us. He told us that the reason all the apostles were there was because the Lord told President Russell M Nelson very clearly to take every apostle to Rome, so he followed that counsel. And because of that, it has become an even bigger event in church and religious history.
Temples are so sacred and important to us. And it has been such a privilege for me to have one so close by my entire life. They represent so many eternal blessings and promises. I know the keys of the kingdom of God are still on the earth and they reside on the Earth through the 1st presidency. It is such a privilege to live in this time, and to have temples continuing to dot the world. I hope you all remember that the gathering of Israel is on BOTH sides of the veil!
MANCHESTER MONDAY 4.1.19
Chipaila ana-maria, the first person we talked to in Manchester today, is so amazing. We had a great discussion about how our church came about and how it was similar to other faiths yet also different in other ways. It was really cool because she told us that the way others churches came about never made sense to her, but what we were telling her felt right and true. I was able to handout the Book of Mormon I had personalized for Manchester to her with my testimony in it and general questions with pages to scriptures for answers, it was so perfect for her. Chipaila told us it was so thoughtful how I wasn’t just giving her a random book to read, but that I even wrote in it how it’s helped me in my life and how it can answer questions she has. She’s read the Bible, the Quran, and many other books of other faiths, but had always felt deep down there was something missing but didn’t know what. And she hoped that as she reads the Book of Mormon, that it will be the missing puzzle piece for her. I had asked her if she had heard about the Rome Temple and she said "that gorgeous building is for your church?!", apparently she actually wanted to go to the open house because it looked so beautiful, but then work got too busy. Then we got on the subject of living prophets on the Earth today and she was just amazed about that. When I told her we would get to hear our prophets and apostles speak to us this weekend at General Conference so said she’d love to watch that and hear those messages! I’m so excited for hear and that we were able to find her today! I asked Sister Baatarkhuyag, my companion today, what she was able to understand from the conversation (she can’t speak English very well) and she said "umm maybe 50% but I could feel the spirit so strongly from you so it was a beautiful conversation!"
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: We are all in different places in our path and journey to discipleship. We have the choice to respond now to Christ’s loving invitation, to COME unto me. The more we feast on his words, the more we come to know him, love him, and serve him.
Love you all!
Αδελφή Gale
A few things that Kaylee told us that I thought were fun: going back to the fútbol games they're playing, she said when they choose teams, the Elders will say, "We get the 3 girls" but then the other team will protest, the response then becomes, "Hey, the sisters are a package deal!" or "You should be thankful we're taking the girls! No one wants the girls on their team." In regards to the "funny quotes": they like to ask her European geography questions and laugh at her responses or "thinking processes". "Just tell us what you're thinking! We know what your thinking, so just say it!!" Questions like: What is the capital of Europe? Where is Belgium? What do they speak in Portugal? Last: Kaylee is just being her friendly self. Her district said that they think Kaylee must know so many of the "new" missionaries when they come in because she'll be talking to them and so friendly and are surprised when, once again Kaylee tells them, "nope, didn't know them before."
FYI: Sister DeMille's mom is from the Kennewick, so she has extended family here. I believe her maiden name is Strickland.
